βοΈ PWA (Progressive Web Application) is a technology that allows you to create non-native applications based on websites. The idea of converting websites into applications is not new: since 2000, both “smallcosoft” and “Saint Steve Jobs Sect” tried to bring PWA to the market, but then the school of native application development won.
The results are obvious: we have a whole zoo of technologies created for native development for different OS.
π‘ PWA has enough pros: cross-platform, low weight, background updates, push notifications, offline work and no need for app stores. The disadvantages, in turn, include higher resource consumption of such an application, different level of support for the standard in each OS (iOS, for example, has strong restrictions), inflexible customization and limited offline.
π 20 years ago, the technology was not supported due to a banal lack of capacity of many devices. Now the situation is turning 180Β°, and PWA has been introduced even in the darknet, where the technology has another advantage – protection from phishing.
So we can safely talk about the stable spread of such functionality.
π Sooner or later unification will defeat the lack of device resources and the greed of tech giants, and we will continue to reap the benefits of “white developments”.
